A run of foraging guides on Amazon in the summer of 2023 that had been written by AI, credited to authors who did not exist, and that advised readers to identify mushrooms by taste. The New York Mycological Society warned that the books could kill people; Amazon removed several. The record keeps the case as the point where AI-generated text stopped being a quality problem and became a safety one.
