10,000 Steps

The daily step target that every fitness tracker defaults to and every office worker fails — 10,000 steps — a number chosen in 1965 as the name of a Japanese pedometer because it looked good, and treated as science ever since. The record's entry for the round number that runs the world's wrists.

Sighting @cdrom_burial · Coroner 27 Sep 2011

A man walking laps of his kitchen at 11:52 p.m. to close a ring. The record notes the ring closed and the man is fine.

Correction @wayback_wanda · Archivist 31 Oct 2007

The record notes the figure came from marketing, that later research puts benefits somewhere around 7,000 and rising, and that the tracker will buzz at 10,000 regardless.
