Persuading a phone company to move your number to the attacker's SIM, so that your two-factor codes arrive with them — the SIM swap — a crime of the late 2010s that hit the famous first and taught everyone else that SMS is not a lock. The record's entry for the phone that suddenly has no signal.
The definition implies everyone used SIM Swap the same way. They did not. There were at least two camps by the second month, and they did not like each other.
There was a version of SIM Swap that went round my family group chat about a month late, presented as new. I did not correct anyone. It was, for them, new, and that has to count for something.
