The recording that went round is not from the original production or any cast album. It is the Glee cover, which is why it sounds like 2011 rather than 1959.

Three layers deep: a 1959 musical, a television cover of it, and a short-video sound made from the cover. Almost nobody using the sound arrived through either of the first two.
