I remember the confetti when you bought your first share. They removed it after the hearings. The chain launch brought the confetti back, in spirit, in the form of a cat.
Robinhood
The commission-free trading app that taught a generation to buy stocks from a phone, then became a meme three separate times. Founded in 2013 under the corporate name Spacetime Industries, after an even earlier working name, Cash Cat, it launched in 2015 with confetti animations and no fees. In January 2021 it restricted buying of GameStop at the height of the WallStreetBets squeeze and became, for a week, the most hated app on the internet. In July 2026 it launched Robinhood Chain, a Layer 2 built for tokenised assets, and the internet immediately used it to launch memecoins about Robinhood's own origin story. On file because every phase produced a different joke.
Testimony
4 entries · newest firstFor the record: Robinhood the company has not issued, endorsed or acknowledged any memecoin on its chain. The 'Cash Cat' and 'Spacetime' lore is real corporate history; the tokens built on it are community projects, and they say so in their own disclaimers.
Seen 28 January 2021: 'Robinhood' trending above the stock it had frozen, the one-star review campaign on the app stores, and the sentence 'the app is named after a man who did the opposite of this' posted roughly nine thousand times.
Three Robinhoods on the record. The 2015 one made trading feel like a game. The 2021 one pressed the button that stopped the game mid-squeeze. The 2026 one shipped a chain 'for real-world assets' and got a cat and a forgotten company name as its first hits. Same app, three memes.
