Microretirement

Taking a deliberate break of weeks or months from work in your twenties or thirties rather than waiting for the real thing — a 'microretirement' — as the early-2025 rebrand of a gap year for people with a mortgage in their future. The record's entry for the trend that repackaged 'quitting for a bit' as a life plan.

The definition implies people actually took them. Most posts about microretirement were posted from a desk, on a Tuesday, by someone planning one for 2027.

The record notes the idea is older: Tim Ferriss called them 'mini-retirements' in 2007, and TikTok simply changed the prefix and added a sunrise.
