Twenty thousand blocky 3D characters from the makers of CryptoPunks, launched in May 2021 with a claim for punk holders and a Dutch auction for everyone else that raised a reported $80 million. The reveal was marred by an exploit in which one buyer reminted until they got a rare one. Yuga Labs acquired Meebits with the punks in 2022 and reportedly sold them on to Sentient Labs in 2025.
A Meebit is a voxel person, the sort of figure that would be a placeholder in a video game, made by the people who made the punks and priced accordingly. The record files it as the sequel that had to live up to the original in public.
I remember the Dutch auction ticking down and everyone in the chat pretending they would wait for the bottom. Nobody waited. The record has the timestamps.
The Block on the reveal exploit: a buyer who paid roughly $20,000 in gas to reroll for a dissected Meebit and got one. Larva Labs paused the sale and the record paused with it.
