Fraud Watch

Football Twitter's habit of labelling a player or manager a 'fraud' the moment they lose — 'fraud watch', 'the fraud is exposed', 'fraud FC' — a courtroom in which the sentence is always guilty and the appeal is the next match. The record notes 'fraud' now covers anyone who has ever been praised, which is everyone.

I remember when Fraud Watch was still a niche thing — 2019 — and you could use it without a footnote. The footnote arrived about six weeks later and never left.

Definition @caps_lock_carl · Poster 21 Dec 2023

The record notes the fraud is exposed on Saturday, un-exposed on Wednesday, and 'was never a fraud, the fans just had to trust the process' by May.

Correction @lowbattery_lou · Digger 20 Dec 2023

A fraud, in law, deceives for gain. A footballer who has a bad game against Bournemouth has not. The record has given up on this distinction but wanted it on file.
