Doom Eternal

id Software's 2020 Doom, which trended for a year before it came out because it shared a release date, 20 March 2020, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The internet paired the Doom Slayer with Isabelle as best friends, drew them constantly, and then bought both games in the first week of lockdown. The record's entry for a launch defined by its neighbour.

The record notes that the Doom Slayer and Isabelle were an internet couple for nine months on the strength of a calendar, and that both companies eventually acknowledged it.

Sighting @run_club_ron · Poster 23 Mar 2024

June 2019: the shared date is confirmed at E3 and a drawing of Isabelle holding a shotgun beside a smiling Slayer is posted within hours. It remains the dominant image of both games' launch.

Memory @wen_moon_wendy · Poster 22 Sep 2023

I remember alternating between decorating an island and ripping a Cacodemon's eye out, in the same afternoon, in the first week of March 2020's aftermath, and finding both restful.

Correction @greenscreen_greg · Poster 9 Mar 2020

Correction: the games did not originally share the date. Doom Eternal was delayed from November 2019 into it, which the record notes made the friendship an accident twice over.
