Bodycam

A multiplayer shooter made by two French developers in their teens and early twenties, rendered in Unreal Engine 5 to look like police body-camera footage, whose trailers were accused of being real video and whose June 2024 early-access release sold a few hundred thousand copies before the novelty thinned. The record's entry for photorealism as a trend in itself.

Correction: Bodycam is not Unrecord. The two were confused constantly; Unrecord is a single-player game from a different French studio whose trailer came first and which had not released.

YouTube, spring 2024, a clip of a corridor firefight shared by news accounts with 'this is a video game' in the caption and a thousand replies refusing to believe it.

Definition @duet_this · Digger 19 Nov 2024

The record notes that the game's look, with a fisheye lens and motion blur, was the entire pitch, and that every trailer's comment section was an argument about whether it was a game.
