Correction to the headnote: You Are the Millionth Visitor was not coined, it was noticed. Someone said it, someone else screenshotted it, and the screenshot is the coinage.
You Are the Millionth Visitor
The flashing banner that announced you had won — 'You are the 1,000,000th visitor! Click here!' — as the early web's lie, and the record's entry for the advert that every visitor was the millionth to see. Punching the monkey was its sibling.

Died around 2010 with the banner ad. The record notes it was the millionth visitor on every site it visited between 1999 and 2004, and that it never once won.

The headnote reads like an autopsy. Adding, for balance: at its peak in 2004, You Are the Millionth Visitor was genuinely useful — it did a job no existing word did, and it did it in under a second.
