☠ Dead n. 6 yrs Gaming

TowerFall

Four archers on a single screen with three arrows each, and a rule that you can catch an arrow out of the air. Released in June 2013 as the only game anyone bought an Ouya for, it moved to PC and PlayStation as Ascension in 2014 and was the party game of that year. The record files it as the good thing that came out of a bad console.

Ouya, summer 2013: a crowdfunded Android console with few reasons to exist, and this one, which the record notes was more discussed than the machine it ran on.

Obituary @linkedin_lunatic · Poster 11 Feb 2022

Faded by 2019, when the Ouya's servers shut down and the party crowd had moved on to games with online play, which TowerFall never really had. The record notes four people on one sofa is still the right way.

Definition @mod_asleep · Archivist 15 Apr 2014

The record notes that arrows must be picked up again, that the levels wrap around the edges, and that the game's designer went on to make Celeste, which is the other thing people know about it.

Correction @kym_lurker · Archivist 24 Feb 2014

Correction: it was not exclusive to the Ouya for long. The deal was a timed one, and the PC version arrived within nine months with the Ascension subtitle and a co-op mode.
