Solarpunk

Green roofs, art nouveau curves, windmills, a solar sail and a society that fixed things — solarpunk — as the optimistic sub-genre proposed on a blog in 2008, given a look on Tumblr in 2014, and by 2021 a TikTok aesthetic, a yoghurt advert and an argument about whether it can be an aesthetic and a politics at once. The record's entry for the future with plants.

Definition @pov_pauline · Poster 4 Aug 2021

The record notes solarpunk is cyberpunk's hopeful cousin, that 'punk' here refers to fixing your own bicycle, and that its fiction is outnumbered about a thousand to one by its mood boards.

Correction @lobby_leader · Poster 24 Dec 2019

The record notes solarpunk's most-shared image is a 2021 Chobani commercial, that this is regarded by solarpunks as a tragedy, and that the yoghurt was not even especially sustainable.
