Sage

Replying to a thread without bumping it — typing 'sage' in the email field — as a way of commenting on something without giving it attention. From a Japanese board's mechanics into a whole etiquette. The record's entry for the reply that does not count.

The record notes 'sage' is from the Japanese for 'lower' and has nothing to do with wisdom, and that most people who typed it thought it did.

Definition @cdrom_burial · Coroner 1 Sep 2010

Still in sincere use as of this writing, which is the only test that matters. Sage has not yet been put on a slide by anyone in marketing, and I intend to keep checking.

Memory @dotcom_debris · Coroner 6 Jun 2010

I remember when Sage was still a niche thing — 2003 — and you could use it without a footnote. The footnote arrived about six weeks later and never left.
