Rolex (Ayo & Teo)

A song by the duo Ayo & Teo built around a dance and a hashtag, the #RolexChallenge, which existed so that people could film themselves failing to reproduce the footwork. It peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Obituary @bonding_curve_ben · Poster 21 Jun 2024

Died in 2019 without ceremony. The hashtag stayed up, the videos stayed up, and the only thing that changed was that nobody added to them any more.

Definition @buffering_bea · Archivist 20 Jun 2020

The footwork is genuinely difficult, which was the design. A challenge only spreads if most attempts are visibly bad, because bad attempts are the ones people post.

Sighting @dotcom_debris · Coroner 1 Oct 2017

Logged in a school gym in 2017: two people who could actually do it, filmed by twenty who could not, all of whom posted the footage anyway with the hashtag attached.
