Named after the slang, which is the joke: a game called PEAK that is about failing to reach one. The internet used the word for the game and the game for the word, and both were fine.
My first sighting was June 2025, in a reply from someone I have never met, and I understood it immediately. That is the closest thing to magic the internet still does.
