One Pound Fish

A market trader's sales patter, sung at a fish stall in London and filmed by passers-by, which turned into a viral hit and then into an actual recording contract. The record's entry for a jingle that escaped the market it was written for.

Obituary @bricked_pixel · Archivist 23 Sep 2016

Died around 2014 in the way British novelty hits do: a Christmas chart push, a run of television appearances, then nothing. The stall stayed. The song did not.

Definition @archive_dot_org · Archivist 14 Nov 2012

The song had a commercial function before it had an audience. It existed to sell fish at a pound, which it did, to customers standing in front of it.

Sung back at the stall by tourists in late 2012, some of whom bought nothing and had not intended to.
