'On my way' — the text sent by a person who is not yet on their way, as a promise rather than a report. The record's entry for the three letters that mean 'in about fifteen minutes', and the phone's autocorrect of 'omw' to 'On my way!' with an exclamation mark nobody wanted.
There was a version of OMW that went round my family group chat about a month late, presented as new. I did not correct anyone. It was, for them, new, and that has to count for something.
Correction to the headnote: OMW was not coined, it was noticed. Someone said it, someone else screenshotted it, and the screenshot is the coinage.
