LM3ALLEM

A Moroccan pop single released on 2 May 2015 that became, in 2022, the first Arabic-language song to reach a billion YouTube views — the most-watched music video from Morocco and the Arab world. The record's entry for a milestone that took seven years and arrived quietly.

Playing in a Casablanca-themed cafe in east London in 2016, and recognised instantly by two people at the counter who did not know each other.

Correction @buffering_bea · Archivist 30 Jan 2016

It was not a sudden viral spike. The video spent years gathering views across North Africa and the Gulf before any English-language outlet mentioned the number.

The billion was reached in 2022, seven years after release. Slow accumulation counts the same as a premiere spike on a counter that only goes up.
