The first iPhone, announced in January 2007 and sold from 29 June, which put a real web browser and a touchscreen in a pocket and made the mobile internet a place people actually went. The record's entry for the day the web stopped being something you sat down for.
Seen in the gallery: one sentence, the date, and the word 'forever'. The record does not use 'forever' but concedes the gallery had reason.
The record notes the first iPhone had no App Store, no copy and paste and a slow data connection, and that none of this mattered because it showed the actual web, at actual size, with a finger.
Someone in a pub in late 2007 passed one round the table and everybody pinched the map to zoom. Nobody said anything for a moment. Then everybody said the same thing, which was that they wanted one.
The record separates the launch from the device. The device was replaced within a year. The launch is the moment the record is filing: the queue, the demonstration and the first photograph of a meal.
