Seen in the wild on a school noticeboard — a teacher's handwritten poster with GM on it, followed by a smiley. Genuinely unsure whether this is the birth or the death.
GM
'Good morning' — the two-letter greeting, older than the smartphone, which in 2021 a particular corner of finance Twitter adopted as a daily tribal signal, posting 'gm' by the thousand until the abbreviation meant 'I am here and I am one of you'. The record's entry for the greeting that became a handshake.

The record notes 'gm' is now sent regardless of time zone, that replying 'gm' to a 'gm' is mandatory in some circles, and that the record has been in those circles and left.

A reader points out 'gm' was ordinary texting long before any subculture claimed it. The record agrees and wishes the reader gm.
