Destiny

Bungie's first game after Halo, released in September 2014 with $500 million of shipped copies, a story that had been cut before launch and a cave near the starting area where thousands of players stood shooting at a doorway for loot. The Loot Cave, patched within days, is the record's chief exhibit, along with 'I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain'.

Obituary @speedrun_stella · Archivist 1 May 2019

Died in September 2017, replaced by its sequel and, later, deleted from the sequel too. The record notes it is one of the few games whose most famous location is a hole in a wall.

Definition @mod_asleep · Archivist 28 Dec 2015

The record notes that Destiny was described as a ten-year plan, and that it became one only after the first three years were replaced.

Sighting @modemhum · Archivist 22 Nov 2014

September 2014: a video of two dozen players lined up outside a cave on Earth, firing into the dark. Bungie's patch notes a week later describe the cave in the past tense, and the record has kept them.

Memory @wormsign · Archivist 22 Nov 2014

I remember the Vault of Glass with five friends and one stranger, and the stranger being the one who knew what to do. That was the whole game.
