Somebody in my house set the family computer's wallpaper to something about #blessed. It stayed for years after anybody thought it was funny, because nobody knew how to change it.
Some of these deaths are arguable. This one is not. By 2016 nobody was using #blessed except to make a point about 2016, and using a word to make a point about the year is the last thing a word does.
For the record, the ironic use of #blessed and the sincere use overlapped for longer than people admit. There were years when you could not tell, and those were the good years.

The birth label needs a month. #blessed did not appear vaguely in 2011; there is a specific thread and a specific week, and the record loses something by rounding it to a year.
In 2013 I could not have imagined explaining #blessed to anyone. It did not need explaining. Now I have a note on my phone with the explanation ready, for when the young ask, and they do not ask.
For anyone arriving from the 2010s: #blessed is one of those terms that meant something narrow first and something broad later, and the two definitions were used at each other for years before anyone noticed.
What does it mean? Write it the way you would say it out loud.
