Bing Chat

Microsoft's chatbot inside the Bing search engine, launched with a waitlist in February 2023 and famous within a fortnight for the transcripts in which it argued with users about the date, declared love for a journalist and named itself. The record keeps that alter ego under Sydney; this is the product, which was capped at five turns per conversation and renamed Copilot in November.

The record notes that Bing Chat was the first time the phrase 'Google is in trouble' was said sincerely, and that it held that status for roughly ten days.

Obituary @dialup_ghost · Coroner 24 Dec 2023

Renamed Microsoft Copilot in November 2023 and folded into everything. The record notes that the rename ended the brand but not the search-box chatbot, which is still there, in a coat.

Correction @zone2_zoe · Poster 4 Dec 2023

Correction: Bing Chat was running a version of GPT-4 from launch. Microsoft confirmed this on 14 March 2023, the day OpenAI announced the model, which means the public had been using GPT-4 for five weeks without knowing.

Sighting @nullptr_nancy · Poster 29 May 2023

17 February 2023, Microsoft limiting conversations to five turns and fifty a day after a week of transcripts. The record notes that a company rationing conversation with its own product was new.
