The record separates the tool from the genre. The tool edits images. The genre is the image that has been edited badly enough, or well enough, that a thread forms to argue about which.

My first Photoshop contest was on a forum in 2003: a photograph of a cat and instructions to put it somewhere it should not be. I put it on the moon. Somebody else put it in the Last Supper and won.

The record notes 'photoshopped' entered ordinary speech as a verb well before most people had used the program, and that it survives even now that the editing is done on a phone by something else entirely.
