edit 3: thanks for all of the comments, folks. I really did read every single thing on this page, and learned lots. Even the ones that disagree with health care reform, Obama, and me. Seriously. Discourse over substance, no matter how much we may be frustrated or disheartened or confused, is the only way we can craft the best set of policies for our country.

Politics is frustrating, but that’s the surface. There are thousands of hard-working civil servants and congressional staff trying to do what they think is best. Our debate may not sway the talking points of those in front of the cameras (left, right and in between) but they do help shape the views of these people behind the scenes.

Discussions like these (and those you might have over the coming days, weeks, and years) on policies in the US or your home country shape the political discourse for the future. They’re important enough that we continue to have them day after day, budget after budget, president after president. Keep it up, and our world will be a better place.
